Should US companies be required to provide equal pay to women and men? – Part 20

The notion that women on average get paid less than men is extremely misleading. Yes, it’s true on average they do get paid less, but there’s a reason for this. When people here these facts they simply assume it’s because employers pay women less because they are women, that’s just not true it most cases.

In these statistics people fail to take into account the fact that women generally take more time off work for bearing and raising children. Women simply work more jobs that pay less like secretary work, while men generally work more labor intensive jobs like construction where salaries are higher to compensate for potential injury. Also, men, on average, tend to be more involved in career building then women which also leads to help spike the “pay gap” between men and women. There are hundreds of other factors that influence these statistics as well. Heck, there’s simply more men in the work force than women. When all this is taken into consideration it’s no wonder the statistics come up the way they do.

In closing I want to bring up another point which totally destroys any arguments against me. If employers can get away with paying women less for the same job a man does as claimed, then why would any intelligent employer ever hirer a man over a woman in the work place? I doubt it’s simply because they have some strong sexist feelings and would rather take a loss in profit than hirer a women.

YES! Women should receive equal pay for doing equal work. Why do companies and/or MEN seem to think that just because a woman is a WOMAN, that she somehow has less value than her male counterparts? A woman should be paid according to her education and job-related skills, instead of what she has on her chest and between her legs! This is the twenty-first century, for crying out loud! Anything less than treating women equally is DISCRIMINATION, is it not? The days of a woman being stereotyped as a housewife/mother are long gone. And while I have nothing against women who choose to be stay-at-home mothers and/or homemakers, the majority of women are finding it necessary to enter the workforce, and there really should be no competition when it comes to equal pay for equal work. I would like to pose this question to the men: how would YOU feel if the situation were reversed? Wouldn’t you be incensed? Especially if you spent several years in college, earning a degree, hoping that it would help you land a great job, only to discover that your gender posed a major hindrance to achieving your life’s goals? NOW do you get it?

How to Buy Cosmetics and Beauty Products

The best way to buy cosmetics and beauty products, at least for the first time, is to go in a store and talk to a make-up artist or in a beauty salon and talk to a hair stylist. You can also go in a specialized store where the staff can explain the difference between products, to they have to be applied and how to clean your face and body after using beauty products. You do not have to be a specialist to buy beauty products. However if you talk to one and find out what kind of cosmetics work for you, you will be happier with your products.

Any cream, lotion, make-up, hair product or any other product intended to make one look better, more radiant, cleaner, small better and change your appearance is included in the beauty products category. The beauty products are divided on categories for men, women and children. Some of the products like for example hands soap are considered unisex and have their own category. Furthermore to make shopping easier both in the store and online the beauty products are put on categories like perfume and cologne, hair care, skin care products, and cosmetics. Each of these main categories is further divided into smaller sections where the same type of products from different brands is exposed. For example if you want to buy cosmetics you have to know what kind of cosmetics you want to buy because the cosmetics category is a very wide one.

A lot of time people understand the same thing through cosmetics and beauty products, thus creams and lotions for example are also considered cosmetics. There is also decorative cosmetics where make-up is used to change one’s appearance and care cosmetics where one uses certain products to maintain a healthy looking skin and preserve his or her body. So when you tell someone you want to buy beauty products you have to be more specific than that. A thing to consider when you want to buy cosmetics is to check the ingredients list and see if the product was tested or not before being sold. In the beginning a lot of synthetic ingredients were used for making the beauty products. Because of the ingredients a lot of times there were side effects like skin irritation. Nowadays more and more producers use now as many natural ingredients as possible. The natural ingredients are minerals and plants and other organic products. Since a lot of beauty products are used by children it is very important that these products are non-toxic and safe.

When you want to buy beauty products you have to know exactly what you want. If you are looking for something for your lips you can decide for a lipstick, a lip gloss, a lip balm, a lip conditioner or other kinds of lip related products. If you want something for the eyes, choose from mascara, eye liner, or eye shadow. Some of the products like for example the concealer or the blusher have multiple uses. A lot of these products come in solid or liquid form. The foundation of a make-up can be presented under the form of a cream, powder, mousse or liquid. Other products are like gels or sticks. The correct choosing of a beauty product depends on the type of skin you have as well as the skin texture. Further more when you choose your make-up you have to taken into account the color of your eyes and hair and the complexion of your skin.

Should US companies be required to provide equal pay to women and men?

Let’s look at it this way. If the situation was reversed and the men were the women that were being paid less, would they like to have equal pay? Of course they would, who wouldn’t? It doesn’t take a genius to know the answer to that question. Men and women in my opinion are equal. Meaning that neither gender is better than the other. It’s pretty sad to me that it is even a question that has to be asked. However it’s understandable because women in the same positions work equally as hard and yet they are still are under paid.

I for one as a woman, would definitely argue the point that I do not believe anyone is better than me. So to accept the fact that a “man” in the same position as me, doing the same work is paid more because he is a man just doesn’t work for me. I think woman are still treated like second class citizens in many aspects of the way. Sadly enough I think that many woman just take it because the job pays enough or they have priorities that make it hard to find something else for the moment. That is understandable and if they stay at their place of employment then it really isn’t a problem because it works them. When people get mad enough they take matters into their own hands and that’s when change happens.

I think that as a woman we have many roles. We are an important part in the lives of many. I think that our voice is powerful, but actions speak louder than words. Many women throughout the years have fought for their rights to achieve great accomplishments because they have the desire to be considered as equal as men. Not in their eyes but the eyes of other men and women. I would love to see the day when woman and men are provided equal pay. However until women and men need to do what ever it takes to make that happen.

This debate is still going, even years after women where supposedly given equal rights? I’m amazed that women can, and still do, stand for this treatment in many areas of employment. If you do the work you earn the pay, just as much as a man. And may I add, often a woman is stronger than a man and a little less lazy at times.

OK men crucify me but it’s a fact.

It doesn’t matter what country, a woman should be paid equally.

I agree with one statement, that perhaps the employers/government, are attempting to send us right back to where they think we should be, in the house making babies.

Wiping dirty little bums, and unable to do anything else.

Women have often surpassed men in the brains department.

Statistics say we mature quicker than men. That women overshadow men in being literate, and that we are more punctual, and apt to be the perfectionist much more than men. Thus our work input is good.

Our mannerism much calmer in comparison to most men.

So why should we put up with less pay, less respect, and less chance of a career?

We all have the same type of bills to pay. The same commitment to place food upon the table. The same hopes and dreams for our own home etc. What about the single mother? Scraping to keep a family together and a roof over her children’s heads. Often we can ask “and where is the father in this stage of the kids lives?”

Out soliciting votes for his local party, who allow lower wages for women!

Do ads that use sex to sell their products degrade women? – Part 2

Yes, advertisements use sex to sell their products, but they do not degrade women. Instead, they degrade the people who respond to them, both men and women.

We grow up in a society that teaches us beautiful women look a certain way. The same society also teaches us that virile men also must have a certain “look” different from a woman’s. Sure, there are some biological factors at work too, but, for the most part, our society “teaches” us more than our biology gives us and expands upon it. Consider what other societies think is beautiful in men and women.

I can remember seeing documentaries about countries where people stacked rings around their necks, put plates in their lips or expanded their earlobes to attach various object all in the pursuit of beauty. In other countries dyed hair, different styles of dress and certain prescribed, exotic rituals proved or disproved either one’s masculinity or femininity. I laughed heartily watching these, thinking to myself how ridiculous the customs were, and then I realized those cultures probably felt the same way about our culture.

In our culture, women “paint” their faces to be more attractive, we assume, to men. Women also have more freedom with their hairstyles, their clothing, and their footwear. If most of us saw a woman with long hair nicely styled, her face made-up to perfection, wearing a short skirt and sporting high-heeled shoes, we might think she was attractive. Yet, if we saw a man dressed the same way, we would think he was more than a bit odd. Just as people born in the countries in the documentaries were not born believing a properly place plate in one’s lip was the essence of sexuality, neither are people in this country born believing that women are prettier if they stand all day on shoes featuring one, long heel in the back. These things are learned, and when marketing companies use these facts to sell their products, they are not exploiting and degrading the models in the advertisements, but, rather, exploiting and degrading the people who respond favorably to the advertisement ploy.

If a man, and potential customer, believes a car is better because he sees a picture of a classic, female beauty posed on top of it, does that really degrade the female beauty being paid good money to model? If that man buys the car, takes it home and discovers he is no different than he was before he bought the car, he will know the answer. The same works for women.

If a women believes

The case for women in the military – Part 1

Is the military still a men’s club?

Women have made strides to gain equal rights, yet there is still little tolerance. And yet her place is no longer only in the home. Women cannot stay barefoot and pregnant forever. Women feel they are entitled to whatever they choose.

Let history speak for itself. Women played a major role in both world wars. In 1942 a bill to establish a Women’s Army Corps became law and thousands of women served in non combat military positions during World War Two. Initially people had difficulty accepting the concept of women in uniform, but soon realized they were essential. Additional resources were needed, and they were running out of men.

Women were imprisoned. They were wounded. And killed. Women received medals for courage and dedication, receiving the Purple Heart’ and the Bronze Star’. They performed well in every conceivable job available. And yet they were denied full military status. Thousands of women gave of their life for this country, suffering the hardships of war. Just as men did.

I asked a few men what they thought. Fred said, ‘Why not? Women should be able to do what they want. But they have to be qualified to handle the job.’

‘You hire a person because of their merit, not because of their race, gender, or sexual orientation,’ says Wayne, who deals professionally with women fire fighters.

‘I have found women to be more professional than men, and are very competent,’ Bryan S. spoke with conviction. ‘There’s definitely a place for women, but not on the front lines! And there shouldn’t be different standards for women.’

One set of rules for everyone

Women in combat are a touchy subject for me. But then again, it doesn’t affect me personally. Yet. If combat duty became a right for women, wouldn’t it then make it mandatory to serve? That would eliminate the element of choice, and women would be drafted. Is that what we want? Does gender determine ability? Perhaps. Each circumstance and person is individual.

Sure, I know men and women are built differently. It’s not really a strong argument though, to say that only men have the agility and strength. Take a female bodybuilder for instance. She is committed to training and is prepared to endure situations that an average person would collapse under. Then take a slight man, weighing in at 140 lbs. soaking wet, and you going to tell me that because he’s a man he’s better qualified for the job?

We are mothers, police officers, firefighters, surgeons,
