Plus size women fashion tips: Finding the right plus size jeans – Part 3

We’ve all probably faced this scenario at the store before: you pick out the jeans you like (or the ones that look good on the mannequin) and head to the dressing room, only to find out that not a single pair fits or looks good on you! Face it. Not every one is a size 2, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a pair of jeans that “fit just right” and make you look beautiful. Today’s women aren’t the skinny models that we saw on television in the 1900s, but are women of varying size and figure type. Therefore, today’s jeans are made to tailor that need. Gone are the days when plus size meant “mommy jean”. We can find plus size jeans in stores and online more easily than ever before in a variety of cuts, styles and designs that compliment your age, but whether they look good on our figure is another issue.

WHAT TO KEEP IN MIND

Plus size women (or any other woman as a matter of fact) should know what they want to accentuate or what they want to hide. Look at yourself in a mirror. What do you think is your best feature? That will be the part you want to bring out. Everything you think looks bad is what you want to cover with the right pair of jeans. Shop according to your strengths and weaknesses.

SHOPPING

Make sure you buy your jeans in the store. This will help you determine that you have the right fit and the right style. When shopping, look at all the choices and try on everything! Jeans are a staple in the American wardrobe, so there are plenty of cuts and styles. Some times the right pair of jeans may be the one you thought were not your taste or the one that looked horrible on the rack. Also, the ones on the mannequins are just models and should not be the basis of your decisions. Nevertheless, here are some tips on buying jeans that flatter the plus size figure.

JEANS THAT FLATTER YOUR FIGURE:

THIGHS

This is a problem area for most women, so it is first on my list. If you have thick thighs, consider going for a straight leg, boot cut jean in a dark wash. Dark colors create an illusion of slenderness and will make you look many pounds skinnier. The straight leg will shape your legs and boot cut will even you out, making your thighs seem more balanced with the rest of your body. You should also stay away from any of the vintage embellishments on the thigh area, such as the whiskers or patches of color that are in style today. These draw attention to your thighs, which is what you don’t want. Another problem is the stretch jean. They

One of the biggest mistakes plus sized women make is wearing clothing that is too large. This sounds funny but my 30 year old son says anytime he sees a woman wearing a huge blouse or skirt he thinks…”There must be a huge butt hiding under there somewhere!”

How true. We plus sized gals think we are disguising our figure flaws by layering them up with clothing. The truth is we look much smaller and better proportioned IF we wear more “figure hugging” clothing…but of course let’s not let it hug too tightly!

What is your best asset? Do you have great skin and hair? Then wear beautiful colors that enhance those attributes up next to your face. Try a scarf, or even a great hat to bring out your eyes.

Do you know how many women would kill for a great bust line? I mean we all know they pay dearly for breast enhancement surgery. So if you have great breasts find ways to call attention to that without being too over the top. Be sure and leave something to the imagination : )

I have found that buying blazers and tops that cinch in at the waist a bit also enhances and hour glass figure. And if you have great legs, please wear shorter shirts with higher heels to show them off! When I wear great heels I just feel sexier!

And last but not least, I always say wear a confident air…because it never goes out of style!

I am sick of walking into plus size specialist shops or sections of shops dedicated to plus size women and seeing the horrendous clothes they have on offer. To be frank, they are for the most part, totally unflattering and embarassing for women to wear because they excentuate their weak points.

I am not my self a plus size however my mum, who is self-conscious like all of us, is a plus size and i know from her that she finds this very difficult to tackle.

There is no way a plus size woman can order anything online because the most essential part of buying flattering outfits is to TRY THEM ON! If you don’t do this you maywell end up looking like…well..something you’d rather not!

I was completely and utterly enraged when I went shopping with my mum, I walked into a dedicated plus size women’s shop – a large UK chainstore – and to my utter shock..what do i see? I see a thick knit, vertical striped top with cap sleeves and stretchy-clingy type top! How shocking is that? They are meant to be making these women feel confident – not like a beach ball! I think this is an insult!

I think plus size women should have as many options as smaller sized women, why should they get a poxy corner of clothes with unflattering, horrible clothes! Do these designers not consider body shape, materials used and pattern in their work or what? It seems pretty obvious to me that curvy women shouldn’t be wearing vertical stripes and thick knit tops if they want to flatter their curves!

This is just one example of course but just look for yourselves, its all there in clingy, disgustingly patterned excuses for clothes!

Give curvier women the chance to buy clothes that are designed for their body shape and flattering patterns that will exagurate their good bits and disguise their not so good bits…thats what I say!

Plus size women fashion tips: Choosing a flattering clubbing outfit

Many plus size women women fall into the trap of trying to hide under clothes that resemble tents, thinking that it will hide their flaws. They cannot be more wrong, hiding under oversized, unflattering clothes will only start eating one’s confidence away when they look at themselves in the mirror and start running themselves down in their heads. It’s a vicious cycle. Once the confidence starts eroding, the plus size women hide further in their baggy clothes, thinking that looking good is a lost cause.

I believe in the age old adage that there are no ugly women, only lazy women. Any woman can shine and look her best if she puts time and effort in it. In this case, time will be needed to sharpen instincts on what will and will not work for their body shape and picking out the right clothes.

When women dress out to club, they tend to be more adventurous with their dressing and more often than not, reveal a little more than they need to. This often causes unnecessary pressure on the the plus size women as their choices are often more limited. However it is very important not to cave in to this peer pressure, as there are certain clothes that can only work on petite women and the plus size women should steer clear of. Halters, tube tops, tiny spaghetti strap tops are some of the tops that the plus size women should give a wide berth. Failure to do so will only result in the muffin top look and THAT is hardly the most flattering look on universe.

Another very important point to commit to memory is to choose to which part you choose to reveal. Reveal the top, cover the bottom or cover the top, reveal the bottom. This rule applies to all women who have no wish to come across as trailer skanks. In the case of the plus size women, I will recommend to reveal the top and cover the bottom as plus sized women often have one thing that their petite size sisters do not have, an ample cleavage. Use this to your advantage, wear a lower cut or V neck top that will reveal your cleavage. Not too much though, it is is always best to leave certain things to imagination.

When choosing clothes, it is general knowledge that plus sized women should opt for darker color clothes as it slims the silhouette. Stay away from light colours and horizontal stripes as it widens one’s body visually. It is also important to choose clothes that fit well. Clothes that are too tight creates unflattering bulges and clothes that are too big will once again make one resemble a tent. Choose

All women, no matter what her age, shape or size want to look good, the very best they can be and this is often particularly so for plus sized women. What is termed Bo-ho chic on slimmer girls is generally regarded as tatty, unkempt and uncaring on larger ladies, so plus sized ladies always have to work that little bit harder to be termed attractive.

First things first SMILE!- there is lots of scientific research that states that you are perceived as being much more attractive when you smile, so whatever else you are wearing make sure that it includes a smile.

Good grooming is also essential, freshly washed hair, clean shoes, un-snagged tights, immaculate nail polish all go towards that over all look and more importantly a good impression. People rarely mention clean shoes but they will comment about scruffy ones.

1. Keep an eye on fashion trends, styles and colours. Not every fashion will suit you but many can be adapted. Buy accessories in the current colour trend and use them to dress up a classic black dress or tailored suit.

2. If your local department store offers a personal shopping service go and have a chat with them about what they have in store that would suit you. They are after repeat business so it is in their interest to advise you on things you will like, feel good in and wear regularly. If your store doesn’t offer this service get together with like minded friends and help each other out.

3. Have a free make-up consultation and find out what makeup colours are currently trendy and that flatter you. Throw out old make up, if it’s older than 6 months it’s likely to be unhygienic anyway.

4. Invest in a good hair cut and have your hair professionally coloured. Ask advice of the best colour for your skin tone, don’t stick with the rose hip red, or ebony black because that’s what you have used for the last 5 years.

5. Once you have your hair sorted out sit down and decide which colours suit you best, hold swatches of fabric against your face and looking in the mirror make a note of what really suits you. If you can’t do this ask friends to help you. When buying clothes go for outfits in the colours that you know suit you.

6. Don’t worry what size it says on the label, try on various sizes until you find the best fit. Sizes vary from store to store and range to range. It’s the fit that matters not the size on the label.

7. Go for classic statement pieces, a good well tailored suit, a little black dress, well fitting trousers

Plus size women fashion tips: Looking good on the beach

Going to the beach can be either a time of relaxation and fun, or filled with dread, anxiety and insecurity. When being plus sized, the beach is not always your first spot of vacation. Why? Because it tends to favor the little size three women who look great in string and thong bikinis.

But going to the beach does not have to be a time of self loathing and embarrassment. Instead of hiding your curves, you can show them off and feel great about yourself. Here are some tips that will help you over come any body insecurities you have.

First, try getting a base tan before you go using a good cream and spray or a tanning salon. This base tan will create the illusion of your body having some toning and can help hide any kind of unsightly cellulite. I would also recommend tanning before buying a new swimsuit.

Make sure you have a good bathing suit that accents your best features and diminishes your flaws. There are a number of great tankinis and one pieces that can do wonders to make you look good and feel good! Some of the best kind include sarong style that draw the attention away from the stomach and halters that elongate the neck area. Pick colors and patterns that you look great in, and try to avoid black, especially if you have a tendency to be pale. Although black is a slimming shade, there are better colors that will help your body.

Suits that have lower cuts for the legs help diminish the appearance of large thighs.

Accessorize your bathing suit with a cute sarong, sandals, totes and sunglasses. This will create an image of confidence rather than insecurity.

Do not worry about what other people may think about your body. Chances are, a lot of them continuously wonder what you may think about them. Tell yourself that you are gorgeous, beautiful, pretty. Remember, from ancient Greece until the beginning of the romantic era, bigger women were considered more beautiful and symbolized sexuality and fertility.

Lingerie can be a scary thought for some women. Let’s face it. ALL women. Yes even those skinny little Victoria’s Secret Angels on TV have stared at their body and said, “Do I look fat in this?” If you’re like me, Pleasantly Plump, you want to scream at the TV “No you cow, you look stupid in that, I look fat!” run to our dressers and pull on the biggest Granny panties you have ever seen and vow to never be naked again. But ladies, the truth is, it doesn’t have to be that way.

Curves are sexy. That’s right, I said it. Curves are SEXY. Think on it. Would you really want to see a sexy lace corset on a toothpick? I didn’t think so. It takes beautiful flesh to fill those cups. Lingerie is not sexy on a hanger. It needs to be worn to bring the sensuousness to life. Saying this there is just one rule to ensure us plus sizes look good in lingerie. Are you ready

CONFIDENCE

Yes, confidence. It may seem like a clich but it is true. If you feel confident in lingerie, you will be beautiful and look sexy. There is no rule with lingerie. Find something that makes you feel beautiful. If that happens to be a leopard print chemise and thong, go for it! You will look good because you FEEL good. Lingerie has no “must” size. Bras for example can be made anywhere from an A to a JJ cup. Panties anywhere from a size 0 to a size 42. That is a lot of range. Don’t be afraid. Find something in your size you love and show it off! Whether you wear it just for you, or for that “special someone”, good lingerie can make you feel like the sexiest woman on earth. Just remember, when it comes to looking good in lingerie, seeing is not believing, believing is seeing.

Plus size women fashion tips: Finding the right plus size jeans

We all search for that perfect pair of jeans that not only feel comfortable, but that look great and plus sized women are no exception. Why should they be left out when there are so many of us and the fashion industry wants our business ?

Over the last ten years, the progression of the fashion industry towards tailoring jeans to fit with certain images has gone through leaps and bounds. No longer are just the skinny girls catered for and in the average department store jeans department, the range available for the larger woman is ever increasing to take account of the fact that we are not standard, but that each shape of woman is one that is a potential market.

THE MIRROR TEST

It’s a good idea to look in the mirror and face a few home truths. None of us are perfect in looks, though what this does is highlight those areas of weakness so that when we go to try on jeans, we know which parts of our lower body let us down. For jeans there are five major parts of the body that will need to be looked at:

*Leg Length

*Thickness of waist

*Hips

*Thighs

*Behind

*Delicate parts

Looking into the mirror helps you decide those areas where you may need a little help from clever cut and manufacture to find that perfect pair of jeans.

IN THE SHOP

Looking at the many choices available to you, it can sometimes be extremely difficult to decide which cut would look nice, and the mistake that is often made by ladies in the plus size is that they are slow to try new ideas. What they may not even consider trying may be that one style that flatters them the most. Take a look at the whole range available in your size. Get an assistant to measure you as this will give you a realistic idea of the size range that may suit you.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR TO SUIT DIFFERENT WEAKNESSES.

Leg length.

Here, the short tubby lady can really come into her element, because just because her legs are short doesn’t mean they have to be presented as such. With a nice pair of solid wedged shoes that give good support to the body, rather than silly heels, these can mean that you can choose those lengths that are longer and get away with presenting yourself as if you have longer legs. This works particularly well with boot cut or slight flares, though large flares on the plus size lady tend to look overly emphasized and do not present the plus sized lady at her best.

For those that are short in the body but

Plus size women fashion tips: Looking good in lingerie”

Yes! Ladies! We are all not the same size! Why do we think that we need to shop

at the same stores to purchase Lingerie? Do we go to Osh Kosh to buy our jeans?

No! Why then, do we all think that Victoria’s Secret is the only store for lingerie?

The one time I walked through the Victoria’s Secret store, I knew I was in the

wrong store, for my size. Same as all of us know, we can’t buy our jeans and have

the baby Osh Kosh brand. They just won’t fit!

First remember, there is beautiful lingerie out there to fit all sizes.

We just have to find where to buy the lingerie that is just for ‘our’ size.

I emphasize on the finding our size, as lingerie doesn’t look its best on any

of us, if it is too little for our bodies. Find the style and size that fits

your body.

Second, check to see if the lingerie is in the color that looks best

to your skin tone, and remember, this color may or may not be your favorite color.

I love the color black and my choice would be to buy black lingerie,

but my skin tone screams out for white lingerie.

Also, look for the matching accessories that are sold to match the lingerie as

these can sometimes be a deal-maker when looking your best.

A cover with sheer arms but matching the lingerie is my favorite accessory.

Remember, take your time finding your style color and size, and accessorize.

Last but not least, remember, it isn’t what is showing that is the sexy part,

it is the wondering what isn’t showing, that drives men insane.

Set the mood, light candles, turn on soft music and enjoy the journey,

half the fun is getting there!

Plus size women fashion tips: How to use sarongs – Part 1

Sarongs are great fun to wear in the summer and a really nice way to cover up our flaws while at the beach or pool. Buy several of them, especially if you are going on vacation!

You can tie your sarong many different ways, depending on the length of the sarong. I like to buy sarongs that I can roll up or roll down to make them either short or longer.

Another great thing about sarongs is you can actually wear them in the evening or shopping during the day while on vacation. Just make sure you have it tied properly at the waist, some women wear very light weight shorts under them just in case : )

You may also use your sarong as a wrap in the evening. Especially when you are vacationing near the beach or water. The evenings do get a little cooler and these sarongs are lightweight enough but also add a little layering warmth.

Take a small bottle of woolite along in your bag and wash your sarong out in the sink every night…this way the colors stay bold and your sarong is always fresh and ready to wear!
