What you can do to promote womens rights – Part 7
Promoting Women’s Rights Starts With Women and in the Home!
It may seem obvious to say that promoting women’s rights begins with women and in the home. However it is in the comfort of our own homes that many women find their right to be an equally valued person is set aside.
Not convinced? Okay let’s do an experiment! Will all the women reading this who went to work yesterday and cooked dinner, and washed the dishes please raise their right hand! Okay you two who didn’t raise your right hand can take breathe now! Now the rest of you please listen carefully.
If women’s rights are to be promoted at all they must be promoted in the home first. Every woman has equal right to rest, relaxation and hobbies as their male counterparts.
What’s that you haven’t time to read the rest of this article because the washing needs to be done?
Of course you have to cook dinner and wash the dishes he was at work all day! So honestly, while he was at work what were you doing? Playng tiddly winks?
Making beds, vacuuming, cooking, packing lunches, wiping noses, changing nappies, mopping floors, doing the washing, taking the kids to school, picking up the groceries, phoning in to check his or your mother is okay after that trip to the hospital is all work. Yes it is all work. It is what we do and it is work.
When evening arrives and he has to relax and watch that football game, or go out with his mates, or work on that model he is building, or whatever it is he does to fill his evenings then you need to clock off as well and go and do what you enjoy doing too! It really is that simple.
No don’t do the dishes. No. Don’t you put the kids to bed. Just go and start doing something you enjoy. Okay so the house will look like hell in the morning and your husband is sure to be upset but do not back down now. Tomorrow night do exactly the same thing. Then on the following night do it again.
Keep taking the same amount od time off that he takes off. Keep honouring and valuing yourself as much as he does. The you will have begun the to promote women’s rights where and when it counts the most. In your own home.
