Plus size women fashion tips: Accentuating your best features – Part 1
If you are graced with a Rubenesque figure, get acquainted with your assets and then show them off!
First, let’s look through the eyes of a master. Have you been to a fine arts museum lately (the masters showcased quite a few curves)? If you’re a little shy of your own “classic” style, go ahead, get a good look at some of the great masterpieces; then peek in the mirror.
Let’s first consider the beauties in these 3 Rubens masterpieces: “The Four Continents”; “The Three Graces”; “Union of Earth and Water”.

Let’s face it, these girls have some assets!
So maybe you’re the equivalent of all “Three Graces” combined, and feel like you span “Four Continents”, or equal the “Union of Earth and Water” – don’t despair!
SHOW OFF! Your curves may well be your best fashion asset. Curves, after all, are what the female figure is about (you already have that going for you) – and what would women’s fashion be without the gender to compliment?
- If you’ve got smooth, silky shoulders, show them off! An off-the-shoulder top in some sensuous fabric to compliment your curves, might just be the thing!
- Your breasts may well be the envy of every woman in Beverly Hills. It’s OK to show cleavage. A plunging neckline may actually draw the eye away from an overly plump chin, and elongate the upper half of the torso. If you do go decollete, pick a cut that doesn’t squash or squeeze you up and out the front.
- Show off that sweet face. A romantic “Old World” blouse will do it. Understated and delicate, it will draw the eye up towards your radiant smile and compliment soft facial contours.
- If you’ve got a great back (most voluptuous women do), show it off some enchanted evening with a plunging V-shaped back-line, which can also be very slenderizing.
- Many large women have beautiful, sensuous arms. Show them off! If you don’t like your upper arms, consider 3 quarter length sleeves. They will make your wrists look dainty and draw the eye away from a broad torso.
- Don’t be afraid to show off sensuous, shapely legs such as sculptors have lovingly immortalized in marble! Long lengths may be sleek, but dresses that terminate above the knee can look very flattering and smart, especially with an elegant pair of heels. Super for cocktail parties!
- Got hips? Don’t hide them, and YES you can wear skinny jeans! Pair them up with tunic-length tops. DO wear low-rises (they are so comfortable) but DON’T expose the midriff, belly-button or upper hips! Go for longer tops that caress but do not bind your contours. If you are large breasted, balance out the silhouette with stovepipe slacks or pants that have some flair at the bottom. This will draw the eye away from a wide bust-line.
You certainly can and should wear form-hugging clothing, but never, ever wear anything a size too small, lest you resemble a sausage! Clothing should always feel comfortable and easy to slip into (or out of). Your clothes should caress your curves, not bind them!
Love the shape you’re in and it will show well to your advantage. Remember not to keep your best portions tucked out of sight.
Think sensual; diaphanous works well too. Remember the Old Masters. They were really onto something. So can you be too!
