Health Clubs: Things that annoy me
I mistakenly signed on the proverbial dotted line. I was then trapped in a gym membership for three years at $100 a pop (per month)!
But the costs could have been easily forgiven had it not been for the following annoyances:
(1) The crowds. Could barely get near a machine, let alone use it during “peak” times, particularly after work (5pm and later).
(2) The childish “sign-up” sheets, like we’re in kindergarten. Yes, you have to waste precious work-out time by signing up in advance to take an exercise class or use cardiovascular machines (especially treadmills, ellipticals, and stairclimbers). Plus, the scheduled time slots for machines have short, 30-minute *limits* on them! That’s right. The moment you get on a machine, some other club member has their hawk eyes on you, counting the minutes until you get off the machine! The only available cardio machine which gymgoers seldom use are stationery bikes. Face it, we could all get stationery bikes at home for dirt-cheap prices instead of paying the premium prices of a health club membership.
(3) Gymgoers *hogging* up the machines exceeding their alloted scheduled times on the machines, causing all other members who show up on time to have less time to use the machines…
(4) The *long, long* – did I say long? – waiting line to shower. Dripping with sticky, hot sweat, you will have to wait on a longest line ever to wash up in the twenty or so stalls. If you’re a woman, there is an even longer line to use the bathroom.
(5) Lack of hygiene. Some club members are negligently unsanitary. They do not wipe off their dirty perspiration reeking from their buttocks, underarms, legs, and hands from the machines. You’ll be shocked at the germs that accumulate on the handlebars of the machines and the padded seats of the stationery bikes…and the showers and bathrooms. In fact, a friend of mine who also went to the same club got a foot fungus which required medical treatment because she had forgotten to wear sandals into the shower!
(6) Stinky, smelly locker rooms. The stench is unbearable even when the housekeeping staff spray Lysol disinfectant all over to try to cover the stink up.
(7) Men checking out the women and sizing them up as if women are sex objects. I’ve even heard that we are considered “meat” at a market. A few times some men even dropped their business cards into my machine drink holders while I was running on a treadmill! Listen, it’s a health club, not a pick-up joint!
(8) Conversely,
Women’s Health: What Do Your Lips Say About You?
Did you know that large lips and eyes are directly linked to higher estrogen levels, and that higher estrogen levels are directly linked to attractiveness in females? Take Angelina Jolie, for example. With her very large lips and eyes, she is the modern day epitome of feminine beauty. What this is actually signaling to men is that she is ‘fertile’ that she is likely to have healthy babies. Interesting that it can all come down to biology, no? Even more interesting is that it is true that her full lips and large eyes indicate her high estrogen levels, and thus, her fertility. Signs of fertility have always been an indication of a woman’s health– as you age, it’s important to care for your lips, as loss of menstruation does not also mean that you have to look less fertile!
Obviously, the whole reason behind lipstick is to accentuate the lips to give life to the face and bring out your feminine side — even though you may be holding down two jobs, giving orders, and carrying fifty-pound loads! Also, why not complement the rosy glow of a hot flash?
The purpose of lip balm is to protect the lips. Facial skin is usually around sixteen layers thick. The skin on your lips is much thinner — just three to five layers deep. The red color of lips comes from the blood vessels beneath the skin that actually show through due to the lips’ thin skin. Besides being thinner, the skin of the lips lacks both sebaceous glands and sweat glands. The lips, then, are more prone to damage from the usual environmental hazards to skin like dry air, sun and wind. Damaged, dry lips are not healthy or attractive!
If needed, protect your lips with a lip balm containing nutrients like vitamins A and E, and with a sunscreen of at least 15 SPF. The health and beauty of lips and what they say about women’s health can be maintained!
Contemporary Womens Health Healthier Than Ever Before
Women from past generations did not know how to properly take care of themselves for many reasons. The most prevalent reason that women did not know how to take care of themselves was simply a lack of medical research and general knowledge about female health at the time. However, contemporary women’s health research has resulted in women being much more aware of how to take care of their bodies.Exercise has always been a popular activity amongst women, but nowadays women are flocking to the gym more and more often to sculpt their bodies and keep their moods enlightened. Contemporary women’s health means that women have the option of joining private gyms just for women, which makes the sometimes uncomfortable process of getting in shape more tolerable, since everyone is there for the same reason.Contemporary Women’s Health and NutritionAlso, the increase in organic food markets has also gotten women thinking about eating healthier, since these all-natural foods look more appealing (especially in the case of fruits and vegetables). The idea of eating food that has not been chemically altered in any way would appeal to anyone, and to have it taste just as good and be healthy is of course an added bonus.Women need to keep in regular contact with their doctors about what is best for their lifestyles, and they should also sometime read medical journals to see the latest updates on any health matters that they might have questions about. Contemporary women’s health is really all about information.
