Humor: Women and clothes – Part 2

Is there a complaint department for the fashion industry? I sure would like to file a major grievance. Who exactly is in charge and who comes up with these beautifully sultry fashions?

I have a business luncheon today with a very important client. I have to radiate utmost professionalism in my attire. I do believe I will spend more time and effort in merely deciding what to wear than I will actually spend in entertaining and exchanging business ideas with my client.

Each article of clothing I don involves a very complicated thinking process, beginning with the undergarments. I know that the client isn’t actually going to see these items of clothing (unless the meeting goes quite well, dare I say?) but for some yet undiscovered reason, I tend to take on the character of what I’m wearing.

Spread on my bed for the What Am I Going To Wear Today game are my three categories of underwear: the granny panties, the hipsters, or the thongs. The granny panties tend to bunch up, especially under those cursed pantyhose, so they are abolished in the first elimination round. The thongs obviously would distract me from my important business, for as I am supposed to be maintaining confident eye contact with my client, I am sure to be distracted by the small piece of cloth inside the crack of my buttocks. This will either cause irritability or a feeling of sexiness that could accidentally emulate in unwanted cat-like behavior at my crucial luncheon. Eliminated! The hipsters have made it to the finals.

Next article of clothing to be carefully decided upon is the bra. Hooray for those, for I definitely do not want to portray the image of a jungle woman. Bras are great, for they can actually change the appearance of a woman’s size. So the decision I need to make is what kind of breasts are appropriate for a business meeting? The 18 hour bra is quite comfortable. Thank goodness for two hour luncheons, for I have yet to figure out exactly what happens in the 19th hour. Does the bra quit working as if the clock struck midnight and my breasts suddenly drop from below my shoulders to below my belt? (Oh God, what kind of belt should I wear?) OK, ixnay on that bra. The padded push up bras are great for their visual effect, but the comfort zone is basically eliminated. Those puppies are yanked up and smashed, and after a few hours, I wonder if others around me can hear their screams to be set free. I think I shall choose not to wear that bra, being

Womens rights after World War II – Part 1

Beginning in 1940, the social fabric in the United States had refashioned itself in many arenas. Following the Second World War, the divorce rate took a dramatic spike upward. During the Fifties, it dropped again, but only to continue rising from the Sixties on.

While there are many different theories regarding the reasons for this continued climb, the two most common are the fact that the Second World War provided financial independence for women. While the men were at war, their wives went to work to support themselves.

“Rosie the Riveter” became an icon for American Feminism. In 1942, only 29% of jobs available were deemed appropriate for women. By 1945, the percentage rose to 50%. This was in large part due to the fact that while American men were fighting in the war, women took over jobs that had primarily been dominated by men.

During World War II, six million women worked in the manufacturing of munitions and material. The U.S. government actually encouraged women to enter the work force as their patriotic duty.

While Rosie the Riveter empowered and valued women as contributors to not only the war effort, but the national economy as well, once the war was over, women were “urged” to resume their lives as suburban housewifes and mothers. In essence, they were given the message, that, yes, as a last resort women could be called upon to bridge the gap that was forged during war. However, they once again were relegated to strict and limited roles during post world war expansion.

In 1942, another feminist icon, this one an actual personality, was graduating from Smith College. Betty Friedan began her social activism during her college career. She often commented on the fact that as a young child, she remembered her mother being unhappy as merely a wife and mother. Once her father became ill, Betty noticed that her mother’s demeanor changed. She attributed this to the fact that her mother’s outside life was more gratifying.

Indeed, Friedan spearheaded the second wave of feminism. Anne Morrow Lindbergh wrote of this “feminine dilemma” in her book “A Gift from the Sea.” A prolific and thoughtful writer, Anne was also a Smith graduate and devoted mother of five. In 1954, she took a self-imposed sabbatical and stayed in a cabin writing and reflecting on the many “roles” that women had. Three years later, fellow Smith graduate Betty Friedan conducted the survey which served as the inspiration of her book “The Feminine Mystique”

Should US companies be required to provide equal pay to women and men? – Part 52

Unfortunately we absolutely do need laws that require companies to pay men and women equally for

the same job done. Quite sadly there are still some men lingering in today’s society that honestly do believe it is fair and just to pay women less simply because they are women.

Some employers pay their help based on quality of work done. If a woman is doing the exact same job as a man and doing it equally as well then should be getting the same rate of pay as her male counterpart, taking into consideration length of time employed with the company.

Other companies have standard starting pay along with periodic reviews and raises. Those companies especially have to guard against discrimination for they do not base the pay rate on quality but on seniority. To pay the women of the company is absolute discrimination.

I have heard all sorts of arguments from opposing sides of women’s rights in the workforce and have yet to hear one that was not from a man with a very bloated ego and distorted sense of self-worth. This type of mindset does not discriminate women alone. They are generally very Archie Bunkerish and have no discretion of whom the discriminate against!

Sad as is it, there has to be laws in place to protect us from such discrimination.

Steps towards equality for women – Part 1

In the past time of our century, women’s position is always beneath men’s position. Because of tradition, women only can do their job in the kitchen and just take care of children everyday after they got married. They didn’t have their own choice because old people thought that women only could take their position in the kitchen every day after they got married and they couldn’t hide from the truth that they couldn’t share their opinion because in that time men is “the King”, women could just listen and obey what men’s said.

Time by time, people mind is not so conservative anymore, slowly but sure, women can raise their position with so hard struggle against men domination in society. In Indonesia, R.A. Kartini was one of popular woman who fight against men domination in that time to raised women position to be as same as men position. She was a pioneer of women’s emancipation.

Not only in Indonesia, around the world, there could be women’s emancipation fight. They who did the emancipation were such a brave women who wanted to fight tradition in that time, they didn’t afraid to do something new against tradition.

As we know, Hillary Clinton ( Bill Clinton’s wife ) today is fighting to become the first woman who become US President if she win the election. She is one of many examples in this world that women can do what men can do. Another examples is Megawati Soekarno Putri as the first woman who became the President of Indonesia ( 2002-2007), President Arroyo who lead Philippines, and many more. Not only men can lead the country, women can do that too.

Today, if we see women take position as director, manager, entrepreneur, and other job that in the past time only men can took it, we won’t feel strange now. Emancipation change women’s life in every way. Today, women can share and tell their opinion to society without afraid anymore. Women can get higher education as they want to without afraid of their parent anymore.

Today, women can be what they want to be such as doctor, judge, director, actress, singer, entrepreneur, accountant, and many more. So, emancipation help women choose what can be the best for themselves. We as woman have to appreciate each other especially for our hero because of them we can be like this.. We have to know that men and women are in the same position now. Don’t be so conceited although we have our emancipation already.

Women: get your sex drive back – Part 1

Women’s bodies are wonderful and mysterious things. Here are a few tips to get your sex drive back:

1. Get Exercise

Even a little bit of exercise will be good for you. Exercise increases your general health. Try going on walks every day for a few miles.

2. Emotional Health

Women’s sexualities are tied to their emotional well-being. Women who are repressed, in difficult situations, or in poor mental states may have a difficult time being aroused. Try figuring out what’s bothering you.

As they say, “Denial ain’t a river in Egypt.”

3. Haircut

One of the best ways to improve your body image is to try a new haircut. If you have the money, go to the best salon in town and ask for a new ‘do.

You’ll be surprised by how many men will notice your hair, and what kind of looks you’ll receive.

4. Go Out and Have Fun

Remember when you used to go out and have fun? If it’s been a while since you’ve been out on the town, try inviting your friends for drinks or dinner. Go out and pretend like you’re a teenager again.

As always, if you are facing health issues, you should contact your physician regarding any health or mental issues you face, they may be able to help.

Homemade beauty treatments for arms

Our poor arms. There are creams, oils, treatments, and products for practically every part of the body except arms. Our faces have anti aging, anti wrinkle, moisturizing, youthenizing (that’s a word – right?), clock-reversing potions being sold at every drug and department store in the country. There are soothing scrubs, softeners, and moisturizers for feet. Legs have been treated to hair removers, skin softeners, aloe, cocoa and Shea butters . My aunt has specialty creams created or the purpose of firming and pampering her neck. Hand creams have been around for ages. And our hair? Don’t even get me started on the way our hair has dominated the beauty industry.

But what about those long things that exist between our pampered hands and coddled necks? What about our arms? These valuable limbs have earned some special treatment. It is after all, the arms which lift our children laughing into the air, and provide a soft place for our friends to lean. They are the parts of us which encase our husband in a moment alone and which are extended to embrace our loved ones in joy as well as in pain. With all of these valuable contributions, it’s a wonder women have not yet gotten up in arms (oh come on, you KNEW it was coming!) about this overlooked and untapped sector of the beauty industry.

Our arms are probably only second to our faces in terms of their constant exposure to the world. Some people have hang-ups about their legs or stomachs and would never dream of baring them in public. But even the most demure woman, given hot enough weather, will don a pretty short sleeved tee shirt. This exposure to sun and other environmental factors demands then that we are as loving to our upper appendages as we are to our faces.

Exfoliation is always a great way to pamper skin. Choose a wonderful smelling body wash which sloughs off rough, dead skin that can take away from the softness of your arms. Coupling this with a semi-course loofah is also helpful. Sure, the other parts of your body may benefit from the process, but don’t let them get too cocky this is about your arms.

Second, try one of the amazing new shimmering moisturizing body lotions on the market. These are not the over the top glitter filled products that your teenage daughter and her friends use. These products have just a trace of shimmer which makes your skin look absolutely luminous and healthy.

Next, before leaving the house, be sure to treat your arms to a coat of the appropriate strength sun screen for your skin tone. Our arms, like our faces are subject to premature sun damage and aging.

So pull out your tank tops, dig out those tees, and in addition to flashing the world your lovely face, get out there and show them all what a great pair of pampered arms looks like.

Should US companies be required to provide equal pay to women and men? – Part 71

Well Mr. Hamilton…I do believe you are wrong. Women are just as good as men. In fact, a lot of time we’re smarter and less stubborn. Think about it, women will ask directions and get wherever they’re going faster. Mean, however, will drive around for hours trying to find it themselves. What’s with that? I think, no matter what your gender, everybody should be payed what they’re earning. Seems simple, huh? And also Mr. Hamilton, what about the women that do make the same career choices as men? Should they be punished for a person’s opinion, like yours, on what women should be paid. Let the employer choose how much to pay, but let them pay all people that much, not just the men, and not just the women. And pay discrimination does exist. It seems that some men still think that they’re better. Those men, in power, are what have caused this problem. I’m not saying all men suck, but I am saying a lot of their views should be changed. Though I must say Mr. Hamilton, you did seem convincing, even if I think your wrong.

Plus size women fashion tips: What not to wear – Part 21

There are many things you do not want to wear if you are plus sized.

First off, look for colors you know you are comfortable in, don’t wear bright neon colors they just make you stick out more.

Secondly, just because a lot of the plus sized clothing has silly patterns doesn’t mean you have to wear them. It’s better to stick with something completely plain. Plain colors like black and brown are the most slimming. And although those colors may not go well together, alone they can make a deference. Darker colors are better on plus sized women; it doesn’t make them stand out as much that helps with self confidence. Other colors you can try are dark blues and greens. If you feel good in light colors, try blues or reds.

Next, make sure you know your size. You don’t want to wear something that is too tight or too big. Something that fits just right will cover the things you don’t want people to see, but not make it look like you are hiding in rags. A tip for finding the best fit is to try on several different sizes with one shirt; all brands are different so expand your choices.

Lastly, make sure you are completely comfortable. There is nothing worse than going out in public in something you weren’t to keen on wearing in the first place. If you want to wear an outfit you just bought but aren’t so sure, wear it around the house a few times before going out in public. Feeling good in what you wear makes all the difference.

Modern women: Do they really know what they want? – Part 4

Of course the modern woman knows what she wants. She wants it all!

Modern women want love, they want power, they want respect. Yet at the same time they want independence, solitude and the ability to be who they choose. The modern woman longs for individuality as she clamors to follow the latest trends. She wants a career, fast car, nice clothes and what ever else the latest glossy is preaching about.

Most of all she wants to do as she pleases

Over the past 20 years the concept of love, sex, marriage and fidelity has changed dramatically. Apparently marriage or finding a life partner, is no longer the most important issue on a young woman’s mind. Nor is procreating a family at the top of the ‘to-do list’ for her male counterparts.

Young people now appear uncertain as to what true love is. With the escalating rate of divorce and poor parental examples are questioning whether love and marriage are really worth the trouble.

Society has become full of strong successful women claiming partnerships are not worth the time, effort or hassle. Women of the nineties and beyond are signing off from men in a way that has never been seen before.

What type of role models are really being portrayed to young females these days?

The media is full of women who are portrayed as the “modern woman” with the vast majority of these living loveless lives where the male species is nothing more than a burden or sex toy. Power, money, sex, prestige and other once male dominated realms are now being inundated with a female presence.

On the one hand the likes of radical feminists tell women to go out and live a life of true independence. That self-fulling love is the only love you ever need. Despite this, who would deny the comfort that can be found, curled up in the strong secure arms of a loving person.

The conflicts in arguments can be seen everywhere. First it was wrong as a woman, to have the door opened for you. Even though this chivalrous gesture has been a symbol of fine breeding and good manners for centuries. Now it appears to be turning full cycle as the cries of women everywhere screech out to doors no longer held open for them.

At the same time this new “modern woman” still gets excited when the door is held open for her, or when she is given right of way (based purely on her looks or gender). She still expects to have advantages handed out to her based on the fact she is of the underprivileged sex.

Modern women want equality.

Makeup Cosmetics – The Secrets To Highlight Your Beauty

There are various kinds of makeup cosmetics on the market and these vary from mineral makeup cosmetics, MAC makeup cosmetics, MAC cosmetics makeup, and permanent cosmetic makeup. Makeup cosmetics are important to how most women feel on a day to day basis. They like to feel confident and beautiful.

One way to do this is with make up cosmetics. With the many types of makeup cosmetics on the market it is hard to know which products are best for you, below are few things you need to know about makeup. If you are looking for makeup cosmetics that won’t be harmful to your skin, then you should look at mineral cosmetics makeup. They contain no allergens and won’t irritate your skin.

Women with sensitive skin have discovered that they must be selective in choosing their facial products. Permanent cosmetic makeup may not be practical for them. Some traditional products irritate skin, causing embarrassing red blotches and skin blemishes. These women are becoming passionate about the new line of mineral makeup cosmetics. Originally introduced for women with sensitive skin, mineral makeup products contain ingredients that are safe for all skin types, and look great on all skin tones.

If you have had enough of appling make up cosmetics daily, permanent cosmetic makeup will be the best way to go. You will wake up in the morning with makeup and shower with makeup, but obviously the price differs from ordinary make up cosmetics. Mineral makeup cosmetics are probably the safest route to follow, since ordinary makeup cosmetics contain allergens.

Women trust familiar cosmetics, and may be skeptical about trying new products. Mineral makeup offers an entire line of products. Trying a new cosmetic product may rejuvenate your look, and work wonders on tired skin. Smart women know they don’t have to come with an expensive name brand to help you look marvelous.

The only advice that can be given is that most makeup cosmetics do something to your skin, and although you do not see it early in life, you will eventually. See if you can avoid using it too often, because they contain allergens that can irritate and harm your skin. Makeup has been used for ages and while rouge used to be the signature of the lower social classes we have now created a mass market for women.

There are many ways to use makeup cosmetics to enhance your appearance. The methods you choose to apply makeup cosmetics is up to you; however knowing what is out there for your use will help make the decision easier. Less is more has been the new way to apply makeup, though we still see heavy eye shadow and dark lipstick most women have gone with a more subtle approach.

Makeup may make us feel beautiful, but it is still how we view ourselves on the inside that counts. Makeup cosmetics products will be the best the market can offer if you are serious about your skin.
