I know they say life isn’t fair, but this is just another way to try and keep women down and the power in the hands of men. Women can do the same work as men, so it only stands to reason that they get paid the same amount. Granted, I will admit women do tend to be a bit more of a liability to companies than men, but thats mostly because of the men in the workplace, they shouldn’t have been hired in the first place. Women have been trying to gain equality for hundreds of years and yet they still don’t have it. Don’t you think it is a moral obligation to pay them the same if they can perform equally? One out of every three women in the world is a victim of domestic violence. This can come in the form physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse or a combination of any of these.
Having worked with many women who have been affected by the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual pains of abuse and violence in the home, and having been a victim myself, my take on the situation is this: no one truly understands the damage that is done to the victim in mind, body, and spirit, unless they have been a victim themselves.
Until or unless you have been a victim, there is no way for a person to understand the difficulties that are created for the victim, outside of the most obvious ones. Many people believe that if you get the person out of the situation that should be enough. That should get the person back on their way to being safe, productive, and happy. That, however, is, more often than not, not the case.
Many women, even though they are removed from eminent danger, time after time, continue to return to their abusers. Those who watch the situation from the outside can’t understand why they would do such a thing. What the outsiders don’t understand is that there is, for many victims, a roadblock between the victim and the outside world that is very difficult to tear down, get around, or climb over. It resembles a wall of foggy glass from behind which the victim looks out on the world. More importantly, that roadblock keeps people from coming into their world.
From behind the wall, they are safe. They don’t have to answer questions. They don’t have to try new things. They don’t have to make decisions on their own. They don’t have to sleep alone. They think that there really isn’t anyone else out there who could possibly understand their situation. It’s just easier to go back to their abuser and put up with the violence than it is to do it all “alone.”
If we look at the statistics I cited above, it should become very obvious that there are many more people in the world who are in the same type of situation and who might be able to support each other, if they only had the opportunity to do so. There are many problems that come into play, however.
Oftentimes, women are isolated for so long that they don’t even know how to make friends, let alone take someone into their confidence. It may have been years since their spouses or significant other has allowed them to do anything alone, or make any
